Frequently asked questions

Do you take insurance?+
We are out-of-network, which means we do not bill insurance directly. You pay at the time of your session, and we provide a superbill you can submit to your plan for possible reimbursement.
Do you offer virtual sessions?+
Yes. We see clients in person at our Washington Boulevard office and virtually anywhere in California.
How much is a session?+
Sessions with Amanda are $250 per 50min. Sessions with Channing are $200 per 50min.
What is your cancellation policy?+
We ask for 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are charged the full session fee. Your hour is held for you, and we are not able to fill it on short notice. We know true emergencies happen, and we handle those case by case.
What is a superbill?+
A superbill is an itemized receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance company needs. You submit it to your PPO, and if you have out-of-network benefits, they reimburse you directly. We send one each month, and you can request one any time.
Can you prescribe medication?+
No. We are therapists, not prescribers. If medication is worth exploring, we keep a short list of psychiatrists in the area we trust.
How do I know what my plan will reimburse?+
Our PPO benefits calculator checks your out-of-network mental health coverage in about a minute, so you know what to expect before you book.
Do you work with children or teens?+
We work with adults 18 and older. Younger clients deserve a clinician trained specifically in child and adolescent development.
Is what I say confidential?+
Yes, with a few legal exceptions. If you are at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else, or if we learn of abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult, California law requires us to act. We will always tell you if we have to break confidentiality.

We work with adults 18 and older. Younger clients deserve a clinician trained specifically in child and adolescent development.
Is there parking?+
There is metered parking on Washington Boulevard, and street parking on Redwood Avenue and Walgrove Avenue. Check the posted signs before you leave your car, since street sweeping and permit rules vary by block.

No Surprises Act

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Because Mellow is a private-pay practice, we provide one before you get started, and you can request an estimate any time before you schedule. If you are ever billed at least $400 more than your estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
